What to Expect in Class

Every class at The Body Center is guided with intention.
The work is progressive but not performative. Precise but not rigid. You won’t be moving through choreography for the sake of movement — you’ll be building control in layers.

If you’re new, there’s nothing to “figure out” beforehand. Clear instruction is part of the experience.

How Class Flows

Classes typically begin with footwork on the Reformer — a steady way to connect breath, pelvis, and core before the work builds. From there, movements are layered based on the group, the time of day, and the instructor’s programming.

There isn’t a fixed routine. Cueing happens live and in real time, so you always know what to do and what to feel. When helpful, an exercise may be demonstrated briefly, but most instruction is verbal and specific.

Instructors move throughout the room and offer adjustments as needed — sometimes verbal, sometimes with a light touch. Corrections are focused and respectful, never called across the room.

Music may play quietly in the background, but it doesn’t drive the pace. Attention and control do.

You’ll remain at the same Reformer for the duration of class. Spring changes are clearly cued, and you’ll adjust them yourself as instructed.

What to Bring

Grip socks are required. If you forget them, they’re available for purchase in the studio.

Wear comfortable, fitted clothing that allows you to move freely and safely. Avoid loose layers or items that could interfere with equipment. If you have long hair, secure it so it doesn’t catch in springs or straps.

Bring water if you’d like — it’s also available in the studio. Pilates is not typically high-sweat, but you’re welcome to bring a towel if you prefer.

No shoes are worn on the equipment.

How to Prepare

Arriving 5–10 minutes early is recommended, especially for your first visit. Registration and waivers are completed online prior to class.

If you’re new, it’s best not to arrive late. That said, if you do, you’ll be guided smoothly into the flow without disruption.

There’s no formal check-in process — simply register in advance and come ready to move.

You don’t need flexibility, prior experience, or memorized choreography. Just attention and willingness to learn.

A Final Note

You won’t be left guessing. The structure is there — even when it’s subtle.

Small classes. Clear instruction. You’re never left guessing.
